Scope

The committee looked into whether there was a monopoly in the tobacco industry, its effect on the industry and whether it would be advisable for the government to take over the manufacture, importation and sale of tobacco, either in full or in part. The committee was followed by a Royal Commission, which ran from December 1905 to June 1906.
